A Murder Mystery brews in my neck of the woods

Wabash IN - It's the talk of the town in Wabash. Police this week found bones in the basement of a downtown building. The victim was possibly murdered. But it's not just the crime that's drawing attention. It's the man who once owned the building.

It's a whodunit that's drawn forensics teams from as far as Indianapolis. "We're just looking for any kind of forensic evidence that may be found in this area," said William Hartley, Wabash County prosecutor.

Police in Wabash on Wednesday found a clothed human skeleton in the basement of the building at 75 Canal Street. They're not identifying the body, nor are they saying who might have put it there. They do say they found the body after someone phoned in a tip to police in Speedway, some 85 miles away.

At this point it's still an ongoing investigation. There's a lot of things that we need to do. A lot of statements we need to take," said Hartley.

If the discovery of the body wasn't enough to stir intrigue, curiosity about the building has. 75 Canal Street, according to police, was once owned by the career criminal Arthur Curry, the man who kidnapped the wife of Bloomington billionaire William Cook. Curry spent twelve years in prison for the crime, and in 2002, moved to Wabash, where be began buying buildings, including the one at 75 Canal Street. A year later, police arrested him on a car theft charge. He left the city, only to find himself in the crosshairs of law enforcement after FBI agents tied him to almost a dozen bank robberies in multiple states.

Arthur Curry, since his capture by the FBI in North Carolina this year, has been in the custody of US marshals. If he has a connection to the body, authorities Friday night are not saying.
