Sunday Grab Bag

I can hardly wait for Halloween... oh sure, Samhain is a sacred day and one I hold in reverence... but for all the seriousness of the holiday I still get giddy over the commercialized aspects of the night as well.

My son, who turns three on Lief Eriksson Day, has already got his costume for a glorious night of trick-or-treating on All Hallow's Eve. Last year, some of you may remember, the boy was a skeleton (and a damn cute one, I might add). This year, with a fully realized imagination in tow, Connor Landon Freeman will brave the night, surely battling ghosts, monsters, and alien entities as BUZZ LIGHTYEAR of STAR COMMAND!!!

"To Infinity...and Beyond! "

In other news...

The great Charles L. Grant passed away from a heart attack the other night. A truly talented and inspirational writer, Grant was on the Horror communities most prolific voices. He will be missed.

The lovely and talented KYM held a little contest over at lashtal.com. The objective was to come up with comedic title for a biographical film on the life of Aleister Crowley. Grand prize was the 93rd issue of Classic Rock magazine celebrating Jimmy Page of Led Zeppelin fame. As luck would have it, I was the winner. And what was the winning entry?
Boleskine for Columbine.

I went out with members of the Nightstalkers and WPIRG last night to investigate "Okie Ponokie", the current teenage haunted wood, full of the usual folklore and urban myth that seems to ebb and flow with the times. All in all, I would call the trip a wash... "Okie Ponokie" is no more haunted than any other place where teens and tweens gather to do drugs, drink, and rebel against authority. The only thing going bump in the night in Okie Ponokie was the couples coupling in the backseats of their parent's cars :)
